Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'll give this a go again. I managed over 100 in 2017, by choosing anything that was different when I did the grocery shopping - including different tinned beans (borlotti, cannellini etc, herbs, nuts and seeds), but I soon slipped back to my standard salad and a few hot veg (mainly cauliflower, broccoli and green beans).

I like this idea! I’m aiming to reduce my meat intake this year and eat more veggie meals.

So nuts and seeds count as well? Suppose we are talking plants so coconut milk, oat milk etc count as well? I probably eat 50 different plants a week 😱 will be fun to find out! I am in.
I am just going to post it in here, or maybe my blog or both.

Wikipedia definition of a vegetable

Vegetables are parts of plants that are consumed by humans or other animals as food. The original meaning is still commonly used and is applied to plants collectively to refer to all edible plant matter, including the flowers, fruits, stems, leaves, roots, and seeds

I’ve used the “5 a day” definitions - they are somewhat arbitrary though

I’ve also tried to use the groupings of what a child would call things. Eg apples and grapes rather than say Braeburn apples and Granny Smith counting as 2. Citrus fruits are a bit trickier though

Yes, I would definitely count lemons, tangerines, oranges etc as different fruits. Apple varieties are more tenuous as are pears.
Right:
Day 1 breakfast:
1. Oats
2. Dates
3. Raisins
4. Goji berries
5. Pumpkin seeds
6. Sunflower seeds
7. Pecan nuts
8. Turmeric
9. Black pepper
10. Apple (cox)
11. Blueberries
12. Coconut milk and oil
13. Coffee

Not a bad start!

I got to 92 in 2017 but that got a bit ridiculous at times. I'm starting with a target of 50 and see how it goes... You are welcome to join me...
