Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm now observing my *very* smelly dog who is fast asleep emitting decayed-bird smells from both ends, and hoping that salmonella wasn't involved. I think a worming tablet may also be going down his gullet later.

It might be worth getting some YuDigest tablets too - we give them to Wanda when she has eaten something undesirable - they are a supplement that restore the 'good bacteria' in the digestive system. Wanda also has Yumove supplement made by the same company. I've mentioned them before on this thread ... I have always found them very good and I am usually quite suspicious of supplements and such like....

Hopefully though Jet will have no further ill effects and the smells will diminish quickly :-)

Thanks. Dogs are quite disgusting at times aren't they? He still looks happy, sleeping in the sunshine.

In case anyone is interested the Monty Don book 'Nigel - my family and other dogs' IS now out in paperback. I saw it for less than a fiver in Sainsbury's this morning.

As recommended by Flossie and Jess' humans.

Thanks for that Sharkie. I was hoping for Monty Don's book for Christmas - I hinted loudly enough! - but it didn't appear, nor for my birthday. I may treat myself very soon :-)

We're now seriously considering a muzzle for the small black scavenger. Any recommendations?

I have quite a collection of muzzles (!) and have looked at lots and had lots of discussions on Facebook with other reactive dog owners about them... The general consensus seems to be that the Baskerville Ultra is the best. It allows a dog to pant and drink through it and you can still give treats. If your dog is of a 'standard' size you should find one to fit and you can try them on in pet shops to get the right fit.

They only seem to come in one colour - black, which against a black faced dog isn't always helpful. A number of people I have seen with them have bought colourful Duck Tape (which you can buy from The Range among other places) to 'decorate' their muzzles. It also gives the muzzle a more friendly look so people don't so much recoil in horror at the dangerous dog that must be approaching because it is muzzled.

I use a leather muzzle specifically designed for Staffies because the Baskerville Ultra was rubbing Wanda's nose but practically everyone else I know who usually muzzles seems to use it with no problem.

We've got one for Jess, though we hardly ever use it. Nat from agility and general dog specialist recommended - and fitted - it. I'll ask Raffo what sort it is.
