No efficiency stuff in mine, just lactate and VO2Max calcs. Sounds like an interesting concept though. Wonder if that could be interpolated from my data anyway?

I think the most useful output could be pace/effort at which your lactate crosses some threshold, so you can train effectively in the right zone, eg 2-4 mmol/L. However obtaining accurate estimates of these points is not easy IME, especially in a ramped test where you don't spend very long at each speed and are also breathing into a pipe and having people jab needles into your arm. The results obtained don't always match the beautiful theoretical curves very well!

I did 4 mins at each speed interval on mine, but yes only 24 minutes of running (there was a 15 minute warm up first I think) for the LT testing and pin pricks. I don't think I had a mask on for that section though.

I had a test 18 months ago. Unfortunately the day of the test I had a cold and my resting heart rate was 10 beats higher than usual. A few days later I lost my sense of smell and tested positive for Covid. So I have some results but they are useless. My heart rate at LT1 and LT2 are off and my Vo2max was 54ml/kg/min on that day. I think my real value was probably around 58 or 60 if I'm optimistic. BTW your VO2max is impressive @larkim ! |

I'm a little sceptical about the absolute number, and of course the big reality check is my running pace is appalling if I've really got a VO2Max that good ![]() |

I would have loved to have done one years ago. As my heart rate goes up rapidly after a few miles of easy running, I don't think I will ever find out a true figure without doing myself a serious health injury. However, my usual 44 went up to 45 over the past two weekends following a slightly quicker run and a parkrun PB. |

I doubt you can injure yourself by pushing maximally unless there really is a health issue that you are aware of which should limit your heart rate. But obvs I am not a doctor so would be interested to hear if it is the case. (Clearly you could uncover something unknown but that applies to a whole range of scenarios).

Enjoy - my biggest learning in some ways was how to abort a run on a treadmill at speed without going flying out of the back of it! I still think I could have pushed a little harder on the VO2Max ramp if there hadn't been a small doubt in my mind about needing to make sure my feet left the treadmill track and landed safely on the sides once I was completely spent.

One of the reasons why I've not actually booked a similar test!!! |
