Oh I thought it was Long Course Wales. I’m familiar with the whole thing, just had the acronym wrong.

As a bit of LCW history it is actually run by Activity Wales. Activity Wales set up and ran the first Ironman Wales under licence from Ironman and ran the first LCW basically as a pilot to test the 3 elements of the Ironman Wales course.
Ironman took event running in house rather than licensed out, and hence Activity Wales were not involved with running the IM after 2011's inaugural event but still had LCW which was never under licence to IM.
LCW has grown massively alongside the IM, and is probably as much of a fixture in the town as the IM. Not sure how the exporting of the LCW has gone, I think they also do one in Mallorca.
Here endeth today's history lesson.

Thanks TRO. I love a bit of history. My old guv’nor could bang on for ages about The Longest Day, which when I started was (IIRC) the only iron-distance race in the UK.

Ah, so that's what the IM link is. I knew there was something. You'd think they'd be a bt sharper on the whole Limburg isn't bloody well Holland thing, in that case, though.
LCW list Wales, Holland, Belgium and Jervis Bay (which I think is in Aus?).
Challenge do iron distance stuff in Mallorca.

I think Challenge thought the UK was cursed. They certainly seemed to get more than their fair share of bad luck.

I'm not entirely sure the UK *isn't* cursed, now you mention it.

It was in New Gobiland or thereabouts. Possibly New Argieland - it was a club-run affair by Black Country Triathletes, who were one of the biggest clubs of their day. At least that's my recollection.

I was in a team that won the relay back in 2005/6 - I did the marathon, we were 9th overall or something
