Each one is completely specialised; suitable for only one task. That way you can say you NEED one for off road, TT's/Tris, road (races), road (training), commuting, training when it's icy etc etc. That's how to build a stable of 8 or 9 rather than being in a state of deprivation and bike poverty on 3. Easy!
