Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

My first open water swim of the season will be at Dorney on Sunday. I have previous: the first open water swim OF MY LIFE was also at Dorney, in a race believe it or not. It was one of the evening jobbies at the 'wrong' end of the lake that Greppers and I used to frequent back in the day....

Although I am not really sure if Dorney counts as open water, to be honest.

I've done 400m in the sea at Tel Aviv. Even logged it on Fetch.

My first 'open water swim' was in a pool in Dulwich. Weird but true.

My first proper open water swim was at a lake near Braintree that Troers and I used to frequent back in the day....

Although I am not really sure if Gosfield counts as open water, to be honest.

Gosfield definitely counts as open water, by my definition (being able to see the bottom is my rule). You can stand up anywhere in Gosfield, but you can never see the bottom. If you can see the bottom throughout (eg Dorney), not open water.

I shall have a word with Fetch, and get all open water swims logged in venues not meeting this criteria purged from the training log.

During challenge Henley you could see the river bed - which for some reason was disconcerting :-o

I've open wated swum three times this year in Marlow, you cant see the bottom or stand up, mainly because it's very deep.
