Well poop. There are two 10000m races tomorrow night and I'm in the slow one, which was fine until about 10 mins ago when they moved two or three who were just a little bit faster than me into race 1. Now I'm listed as 2nd fastest in my race, but I was planning on running rather faster than my current track PB (and the PB listed for the one runner who is listed ahead of me). I may have to front run it as a solo time trial, while dodging some folks who'll be a good 8 minutes slower than me. Ar$ebiscuits. But is that better than being lapped by some fella going 6 - 7 minutes faster than me? Not sure. I just wanted company and it looks like I'm not getting any. Maybe I can just use the back markers as targets and engage metronome mode.

OK, so I've now been moved up to the fast race, where every other runner has a listed time faster than my all time 10k PB. Erm.... Not sure which is worse, but at least it will be over sooner. The fast race is on first LOL. I wish we were just all in one race so I was just sort of mid to back pack, rather than either trailing in last in the fast race or having to front run to come first in the slow one. Ah well, it is what it is.

At least I'm now in the same race as the ones who have listed times just 30 seconds or so quicker than I just ran on the road. Maybe one of them will have an off day and I can get some company!

I'd prefer to be towards the back of a fast race than leading out a slow one, providing I was confident I could manage the risk of biting off too much in the first 2-3 laps.

Think it's quite exciting to be ranked at the back, absolutely no pressure on you, best of luck! I've found out this morning that according to power of ten my mile on Friday in the wind, and in my first M50 race, actually has me ranked at no.5 in the Scottish all time M50 track mile. I'm guessing not many people do it up here then....

Hope the race goes well Speedy.
I like both depending on the situation but front running for a PB is a tough ask though.

I've been at the back of two 10000m track races before. One of them I was technically second last until I lapped the other lady and she dropped out. I had to run 2 and a half laps completely on my own. I shouldn't have that tonight. Yes, I'll get lapped by the fast boys, but I shouldn't get lapped by the three runners who are only up to a minute faster than me.

What's the right protocol for being lapped? On the few occasions I've lapped anyone, i prefer them to stay on the inside and me go around them as it feels more predictable, but I often see the elites drifting out to lane 2 etc.

What SPR said.
The UK relay teams were training at Lee Valley today, I just saw the blokes but the women may have been later. They were mainly outside but came in for some baton work. It was interesting.
