Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

T'Minster
T'Treasurer's House
T'City Walls
T'Railway Museum
T'Castle Museum
T'Yorkshire Museum
T'Art Gallery
T'Walk along the Ouse (when it's staying put in its banks)

T'Clifford's Tower
T'Jorvik Centre
T'Theatre Royal - it's a great little theatre
and just T'Shopping on Stonegate, Shambles, Gillygate, Fossgate etc. Basically any road leading to one of the 'Gates.

I was going to recommend a curry house on Fossgate but a) I can't remember its name and b) it was probably over 15 years since I was last in so it's probably changed hands. You can always find an eaterie on Fossgate though.

Oh and cinemas - York City Screen is great too.

Not much to add, other than to say that the Yorkshire museum is surprisingly good. We've always taken visitors on the boat trip along the Ouse, although I've no idea why because it's not especially interesting. Also if beer is your thing (it's not mine really), there are several microbrewery type places serving 50-60+ different kinds.

It is T'Ouse but there's also T'Foss (which also has a flood barrier control thing on it so I suppose both rivers can have a bit of a flood if they like). The Ouse walks are more interesting. Fun fact: the solicitor who did the conveyancing when I sold my Mum's house is in an office overlooking the Foss.*

The City Screen also overlooks the Ouse. I think the old Odeon has also been turned into an indie cinema but I've not been in. (Picturehouse owns City Screen)

*Wasn't as much fun as I thought, that fact.

Also Beningborough Hall (another NT) is a short drive out of York. 3M goes there quite often I think. It was a good, smallish property - though I only saw the house and the gardens which are half-closed for renovations). There's a wider parkland that I haven't explored.

The old Odeon is now an Everyman. Has nice comfy sofas 😊

There's a short train ride to Leeds where you can have a much better day than York ;-)

Stef and I are thinking about having a couple of nights in York later in the spring. Any advice please on restaurants, accommodation, things do do and see, plus the best Parkrun :-)
