Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The 9:59 mile thread. How hard can it be?

Did Sharkie ever run her easy 9:59? (I've not read back through the whole thread)

Not sure I have run a sub-10 mile in the last few months. Parkrun averages (the only "faster" running I have done) suggest not, although with a net downhill last mile and a final burst, maybe just.

I probably manage a sub-10 on shorter training runs (in between walking breaks). I did manage 8.XX at two of the miles last year.

I seem to have disqualified myself from this already by banging out three sub 9:59s at parkrun today. I am considerably surprised.

The key seems to be to do hardly any running and indeed not much of anything activity, never mind exercise, -wise. It's a bit odd, I must admit. (Choosing a flat parkrun and having reasonable conditions certainly helped.)

I haven't done any distance running or run walking at all this winter. Longest rep probably 600m if that. Even running a mile doesn't help my fitness at all - I'm faster this year and running better without it!

I DID run loads of 8 min miling and 9 min miling in my early 50s - just need to make that clear!

Since Dv resurrected the thread, I'll jump on the bandwagon and blow my own trumpet.

10 mile road race yesterday, splits as follows:

1) 9:55
2) 10:10

3) 10:49 water station and fierce hill

4) 10:16 still climbing
5) 10:32 water station
6) 9:16

7) 9:11

8) 10:00 water station
9) 9:34
10) 9:05

Ave pace 9:53
Never say never!

Toot toot! Very good, Maz :-) Would that average sub 9:59ing happen to be a PB as well?

Actually, I make that a 9:59 average over the first nine miles and a feisty final frolic medal
