Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

That's all I've done so far; 2 and a half minutes fast(ish). As I seem to be entering another half marathon in June, I think the fast stuff will have to be returned to the back burner for a while.

From my log books I can see that doing sustained periods of "speed work" haven't made much difference (if any) to my pace overall during these last ten years or so. When I was young (well, in my thirties) I'm pretty certain that speed work got me to my peak pace. I think given that my peak was so long ago and I'm knocking on a bit that "speed work" is just a psychological booster and alters my routine. I much prefer running at about 85% effort as a maximum and maybe doing a time trial every now and again. I think you're wise Columba.

oh..I forgot to say that in recent years "speed work" and by recent 9.13 mile has left me tired and struggling when I'm on a general morning run. It takes me a long time to recover these days I think.

With respect - when we started this thread it quickly developed into a plan to give peeps who thought they were one trick, one speed (ie NO speed) ponies a chance to discover that they were anything but.

And I think we did that!

I think you are right Sharkie...and all the real evidence out there points to the usefulness of sppedwork..I was a bit too hasty in mailing my thoughts ...and because I've had a couple of days of poor runs!

4 miles in forty minutes probably gave me at least one good sub 10 today!
