I have my first participants lined up this week, squeee! And a whole bunch of visits this week to meet different people to find participants. I never realised doing a PhD would require such a ridiculous amount of networking. There's a reason most psychology studies are done on undergrads

That's exciting fleecy. We are lucky in that our thesis is linked to placment so our participants are from within the population we serve. Mine involved kids which throws up a whole load of ethical considerations.
So exactly how many of us are psychologists then? And are we all doing different branches? I'm educational psychology.

I'm clinical psychology. My research is in adults receiving therapy who have learning disabilities so lots of ethical considerations too. My thesis isn't linked to my placement although I did engineer mine so I did my learning disabilities placement in the service I was recruiting from- helped a lot with the networking and promoting of my study, plus I was able to be more flexible in offering appointments to participants.

I'm a hydrologist, I think!
Thanks to Sky Broadband and my continued lack of internet I'm having a rubbish day. I'm meant to be emailing a load of work to my supervisor, tricky without the internet. The helpful people at Sky suggested I visit my local library, erm thanks but I'm paying you to provide internet.
I can't really pop into my uni, I'm in Brum my uni is in London.
Oh well, it looks like I'm going to miss another deadline!

libraries usually have free internet access for 30 minutes or so, FS. Ring up Sky and kick up a right stink though! I'm doing exercise psychology, and my first study doesn't require participants to come to a lab but is a study in the field, so I'm anticipating getting wet a lot. I think I need to make sure I take a brolly and plastic sheet covers for my paperwork! Actually, thinking about it, my study is actually IN a field! I need to make a pun about that somewhere when I turn it into a paper

Woo after a slow and painful day I have managed to send a draft of one of my papers to my supervisors. Feel absolutely exhausted and they have got a discussion section written entirely in bullet points, but I really want feedback about my analyses and results write up. Am feeling pretty happy now as with 59 days to go I've got 2 out of my 4 papers completed (lit review was done a few weeks ago). Now *just* to write up my other results paper and my critical appraisal. Feeling exhaused now though- I don't know whether to go on a run or have a nap
FS- hope you managed to find a way to get the net! Can you tether on your mobile? Or locate a starbucks/ Tesco/ McDonalds etc that has wifi?
Squares- my participants would be a lot easier if I could grow them and keep them in dishes! Had a huge number of wasted days trying to recruit/ get consent/ get participants to attend appointments. But I'm guessing I had more interesting conversations with mine...
Fleecy- perhaps an overly-literal interpretation of fieldwork?

Sky were as expected very unhelpful. If I'm asked to unplug and then plug in various sockets/routers again I'll scream. I don't know what a customer has to do to get an engineer out.
I'm currently sat in the local library surrounded by screaming children
I've emailed my supervisor the 'completed' version of the chapter I've been working on.
pink fairy my discussion is a paragraph long ending with the comment "I'm not sure what to include in the discussion"
Not one of my better efforts, my supervisor is going to love it...
The problem is if I include what I think I should include, I'll just be repeating a load of the discussion from another chapter.
