My 16 Yr old Marhs student worried me when in a reasonably complicated algebra simplification she asked me if it mattered what order we multiplied the numbers... errrmm. Exam is 4 weeks away. Oh well, I hope I'm helping scrape a few extra marks. G

For now, I'm just dreading the MEQ scores (student evaluations timed for before they've even submitted the last coursework, sat the exam) coming out, because they were terrible last year and I can't see that they'll be any better this year.

Sam Jelfs Apr 2022 5:02pm, 8 Apr 2022 1,123 posts	Quote Pin Sam Jelfs I think I have talked myself out of even applying for the Lecturer job - I would love to move to academia at some point, but the not insignificant 5-figure pay cut (and thats the top of the advertised pay grade), plus the difference in cost of living, having to sell the house here, and the slim chance of finding a 4-bed house with big garage and decent garden at anything like a reasonable price in York have all made me think that the grass may not be greener at the moment. And as it stands I actually quite like my job so not like I need to jump ship... Maybe I will have to see if the local uni needs a part-time lecturer...
