Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Met my pupil last night for first time (online). I'm pretty nervous about it. Maths I'm OK with but they've asked me to help with English too. Didn't even like English first time round! Mon and Tue nights next week, will find me out! :-) G

What are people's institutions doing about the lifting of restrictions? We are being asked to keep things the same. I don't know how regularly I will want to test when I have to pay for them. Maybe once a week?

HG, finding the 'sweet spot' where communication takes little effort and becomes spontaneous gives the vital opportunity to find out where a student's strengths lie, and what improvements would be most useful to work towards.

LindsD, they're very much following the government advice. I think there's only the labs that still require masks and I expect that to change at the end of this semester. Ironically, they're probably the safest place on campus given there's multiple fume cupboards venting to the outside running 24/7.

I caught a sniffle from a student this week, even with windows open, but no masks, so I will keep wearing one while I have the sniffles and around the busiest areas of campus. Our VC is an engineer, and Chinese origin, so should be keen on good ventilation and mask wearing, but he seems afraid to rock the boat with the government. We even hosted the Universities' minister recently.

That's a shame. I'm quite pleased with my institution's response.

"COVID restrictions? What COVID restrictions?" seems to be the consensus at our place. We're not asking anyone to test any more (reminder texts have all been deleted), and masks aren't required. Although masks may be worn and "SLT will support people to do so." What exactly this support means, I'm not sure.
