Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm guessing that the sampled elevation is taken from the top of that bridge.

i'd assumed that, but when linked to the map that spike appears to be in parkland.

The elevation? I don’t know. All of my routes are plotted manually (I don’t use a watch) and I don’t use the “follow roads” option because I believe it saves fetch a little bit of money if we don’t, so the plot can deviate off track quite a bit. Maybe my track inadvertently took in an adjacent bump?!

There's a skate park there, maybe Steve jumped on a board and went up a ramp?

I'd assumed that the pic was taken in Switzerland or somewhere like that. Turns out it's just SE of Plymouth :-0

um
Gordon - if you listen to the podcasts, or read some of the swimmers blogs, this is near the end of the Bantham Swoosh event, and I guess, a fairly noticeable landmark that swimmers are pleased to see?

The Bantham Swoosh involves swimmers going into the water at Aveton Gifford and swimming downstream for six kilometres on the outgoing tide. As they pass Bantham’s iconic pink boathouse at Jenkins Quay, they experience a ‘swoosh’ as the current pulls them round the corner at up to four times their usual swimming speed.
