Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

@Torque Steer wordle in two also 😊I wonder if we started with the same word πŸ€”Nice graphs!

@Welshpoppy strange about the foot 🫀 and also frustrating as you don't really know the cause of the problem.

@NZD definitely play it by ear with your xc and hopefully it will be a step back to normality.

@OO62 thank you for the info about the BMAF race. Not sure what my running plans are after Newcastle. There are 10 in my category and the only thing I would like to say is I will be in the top 10 😁 I don't actually mind. I feel fortunate to be there.
Well done on your race win!!

Good luck Solo but you will be in the top ten ;-)

re foot it has to be connected to achilles and yet it was fine running yesterday no problems then over night.A friend has suggested doing 5k daily and see how it behaves and then 4miles etc a slow build up although I have done a gradual build up.

Not sure if weight of duvet as legs where in and out of duvet last night.

The cycle track which was first time in two weeks is hillier and maybe not ready for the hillier stuff just yet.

A little peeved as just entered a few races but they will not happen and just hope the October race is okay.

@Solo wordle in 5.... :(

Advice request.
I have a had 2 hernia ops (right side) - the last one 5 years ago. All successful. On the last 2 hard runs I started to get a dull ache from the same side groin, and seem to think there 'might' be a small lump. Now I think I might be over sensitive, so my current plan is to monitor it over the next few weeks, then make a judgment. Obviously if things do go suddenly worse I'll stop and go to the doctors, but based on my experience the basic doctors are unlikely to really make a judgement and will refer me. It could be muscular. For those of you who have had this experience, how did you handle it)
Many thanks.

@Solo well I started with "audio" so lets see if we were telepathic :-)
It's a fairly regular starter for me as it sorts out the vowels, other than E which is nearly always easy to place.

@Welshpoppy it does sound like a transient sort of thing in your foot but still annoying.

@festerarl I've had two hernia ops also but on opposite sides and never had any problems afterwards with them, and the last was >10 years ago.

Hernias have become elective surgery which means that treatment can be variable!! I suspect that referrals may take some time and if it is only a very small swelling it will not get close attention just yet.
There are a range of muscles that run down the V of the lower abdomen and any one of them could get some strain from a hard workout but that's just speculation.

@festerarl. I have an untreated hernia (R) that has been there well over 20 years. Different situation but if it seems there is actually a lump, I would be getting it checked. Yes, 'basic' doctors often do get things wrong. Personally, a referral is what I would be aiming for! But slightly different situation as I have health insurance* so much less subject to the vagaries of the public health service.(* doesn't cover basic doctors visits, just specialist and hospital etc).

I initially intended getting it operated on but one of my brothers had had problems following laparoscopic surgery on a hernia (gauze issue) . Was uncertain whether to opt for that or conventional surgery. While discussing with the surgeon, he mentioned it was not essential to have it operated on. So easy decision. Twenty plus years on it is still there. Quite large but easily retracts when lie down. Only once a problem (must have torn it a bit further - sharp pains) but that was about 10 years ago.

TS it was a flat road race, all tarmac.
As you say solo just good to get to the England final, and wear the vest. And you get to run over the Tyne Bridge out and back.

WP sorry to hear about the foot issues and race impact. I guess you've tried wearing a compression sock for support?
Off to Keswick for the weekend including a fast parkrun blast.

@Solo and @OO62 hope they remember to shift the roadworks on the Bridge by then :-)

@NZD yup -if it doesn't hurt leave alone. Mine did, hence the surgery. The last one was done under local anaesthetic and my recovery was remarkably swift . Spent most of the op talking about parkrun with a nurse :-)

@Welshpoppy hopefully that is a cure but still doesn't explain why it is occuring

Still cool enough early on to be a pleasant experience out there as I did the same 2.8 miles of 1 min walk/run in 34:24 with HR 117/142 - so basically the same as yesterday.
Hamstring continues to respond positively so next week may step up to 2 min run/1 min walk which may slow my run pace down a bit - not a bad thing at this stage.

Wordle in five despite having the vowel in place after two
