Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

...somebody just ahead of me running 45 min 10K pace and stopping dead after about 500 metres to tie his shoelace. First time I've ever hurdled an obstacle in a flat race. ;-)

and people who stop dead after crossing a finish line - almost had to leap frog someone on Sunday at Thirsk 10 who stopped dead the second he crossed the line.

My son broke his arm stopping dead on a finish line (sprints in training) - fell flat forwards onto his arms. Never a good idea!

This stopping dead sounds like a bigger menace to runner safety than headphones and MP3 players. Maybe UKA can implement a new regulation to DQ anyone who stops dead during races.?

on the subject of officious UKA officials. My friend was once threatened with being DQ'd at Newcastle marathon because he said I was "coaching" him! I was jogging along on the grass as he ran up the finish straight cheering him on!

If an interesting-enough topic came up in that thread, it might even induce the official officious officials offshoot thread...

I chuckled at reading this on the Formula One Castle Rock 10K page (http://formulaonecastlerock10k.itsyourrace.com/event.aspx?id=5587).

"And Finally...Do Not Wear Headphones!

We are not the anti-fun brigade! They pose a serious safety risk on a course which is on un-closed roads. It is essential you can hear instructions and guidance from race marshals intended to help to safeguard you. According to England Athletes rules we will disqualify any runner seen wearing headphones.

Please leave them at home or give them to a friend to look after on the day."

So who ARE the anti-fun brigade?
