Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Bix Beiderbecke? Is Leadbelly jazz or blues? I love "Now this is jazz" from High Society.

For clarity's sake, are you lumping Duke Ellington and Dave Brubeck into this bizarre tirade?

Don't try to reason with the peasants Maclennane. Just throw a turnip and run for it.

A Love Supreme is, shall we say, not exactly a sensible entry point to the wonderful world of 'Trane. Try Lush Life instead. open.spotify.com Lush Life itself is a bit meandering, but the album as a whole has lots of actual tunes.

(Whereas A Love Supreme is deep, deep into the third of Alan Plater's divisions of jazz into "hot, cool and what time does the tune start?")

No! I'm not giving them a vote. Look at Brexit!

Badger, the pseudo spiritual guff on A Love Supreme gets me so annoyed I can't pay attention to the music.

I don't think Love Supreme is *that* 'difficult'.

There's an easier, far, far easier way into Coltrane, however - and that's via Miles Davis. Coltrane played sax on Kind of Blue. And if you don't like that Nell, my most excellent and valued friend, then you may as well have your ears removed.

Actually Nell - might I be able to drag you to the Chelmsford Jazz Club Christmas bash this year? It's great, there are free mince pies, and there's normally a sing-along to When You're Smiling a the end. It's *lots* of fun.
