Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Canoe-wise, we’ve got an old Coleman RAM-X 15. Lots of people slag them off for being heavy and unwieldy but it’s pretty bomb-proof and has given us a lot of fun.

If I was going back to paddling and expeditioning I would be looking to buy either a Mad River Explorer 15 or a Wenonah Prospector 16.

They say you can car-top a Laser, but I’ve never seen anyone doing it IRL.

Laser isn't much bigger inside (I say inside, as with both Topper and Laser you're sitting on rather than in!) just a bigger rig. I don't need a bigger rig! It's for Swallows and Amazons and see if the grandson or other family / friends kids want to try it. A Mirror would actually be best, but they're wooden and unlikely to find one that is sound and low maintenance. :-) G

Mirrors are ace! Proper Swallows & Amazon’s boats. MrsC and our littlest are currently using one to compete in the club Windward/Leeward race series.

Angus, where are you again? Further north? Or East Lothian? What sailing club are you at?

There weren't many GRP Mirrors made, I don't think. Presume yours is all wooden (but metal spars?) How do you find it for maintenance? :-) G

You’re right though. Wooden boats do take quite a bit of tlc.

We’re near Montrose but we sail at Forfar SC. The Mirror we’re using belongs to the club and is all wood. We’ve got our own wooden Enterprise, which is how I know so much about maintenance!! :)

Another plus for the Topper you see. Very low maintenance! :-) G
