Back in the day, well the (nineteen) seventies, I'm sure most tests went the distance.

A good pitch should offer something for the batters and for the bowlers. It shouldn't be flat too early, but it should not have uneven bounce or give excessive movement. At the end of day one a 'normal score' now might be 260 to 320 for 4 or 5, historically maybe 230 to 250 for 4 or 5. This pitch is horribly substandard. The batters don't know what is going to happen, and it's not because of the bowlers

Fenners-Reborn wrote: how many tests go five days? Minus the interruptions we've scarcely got to two days play. Average balls per test in the most recent WTC cycle is 1638 ~= 273 overs, which, with over rates and disruptions being what they are, points to a 4th day finish. But a hell of a lot of the best ones go into the fifth day. |

I read 20% went to a 5th day earlier but couldn't verify, not even close to verifying, the veracity of the claim.
