Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'll make sure I print it off then, thanks. They can't send out physical ones at the moment as there's no one in the office.

Didn't make it onto the Broads, but we have managed to get out on the canal - a mile down to the local pub, and then a mile back. Probably as well we didn't go on the Broads, we clearly need more practice!

Was going to start another thread but found that this one had been resurrected.

Enjoyed 2 kayakingerings this summer, about to go for a canoe tomorrow night and researching sailing boats to buy too (is sailing chat allowed too?!)

I blogged on kayak on River Tay with MrsS(rrr) - 2 hours pootling around looking at wildlife (with an instructor in rented boats). Last Saturday was different - same instructor, but group of 4 cyclists / runners and going longer distance and duration and with some technique instruction and deliberate harder workout. 10 miles, 3 hours paddling, 5 hours total, great day out. Felt it in my core after - good workout!

So, have taken the plunge and purchased a roof rack - Β£144 cheapest one from Halfords. Who knew! Attached it. 20 mins my ar*e. I was 3/4 of an hour in the drizzle last night! Collecting canoe from same instructor, but to launch at local loch. Taking my 83 year old mum out! She used to kayak in the 1950s in Germany. So a trip down memory lane!

I've looked at getting a boat or boats for years. My background is sailing. I like kayaking for fitness, I've done a bit of rowing, good for same. But neither are very sociable. Sailing boats and canoes are better for the swallows and amazons stuff. So I thought, how about one of each?! Currently researching how much I can get on top of one car!! :-) G

:)

NorthEast Kayaks (based in Northumberland) have good stock variety, usually good prices and delivery and they’re lovely people. If you want a new boat.

Kayaking is very sociable in my experience. I paddle with a club. Never go out solo so always with others. Chat as you paddle, chat when you stop for lunch, and second lunch and tea break. That's sea paddling though. Mind any river trip I've done has been similar - lots of eddying up between exciting/scary stuff.

If you fancy a sea kayak then a lot of folk from our club use these lot seakayakoban.com They do demos so you can try boats out before you buy.

Oh yes, heard lots of good things about the Oban guys too. Especially for sea kayaks.

My pal works for Outdoor Explore outdoorexplore.co.uk so I'm sorted for tuition, trips and purchasing, thanks! They are v good by the way. Central Scotland - rivers, lochs and East coast sea stuff.

I'll let you know how tonight's canoe with the aging parent goes!

So, sailing... anyone? I'm going to get a Topper dinghy, I think. And a canoe (not a kayak!) :-) G

Topper dinghy for you? Not to be rude, but you might find it a bit of a squeeze. How tall and heavy are you?

My Young Lad is 174cm (5’8”) and weighs 53kg. He’s just about grown out of a Topper and is currently experimenting with a Solo and a Laser Radial to see which he prefers.

I know how small they are AC. It's more for mucking about on. I'm 174cm and 74kg. I want to car top, not trailer, so limited on size. If we actually make use of it, I might get something bigger, and a trailer. We shall see! :-) G
