Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Have you been checked out at the docs as sudden bloatedness could have an underlying cause.

Well done Night owl and LindsD.

I have been going to the doctors with abdominal issues for the past 15 months, I have an appointment in November to see a consultant. Its the bloating that is getting me down some days its ok other days I could pass as 7m pregnant if not for the fact I'm too old to be.

I’d say do nothing until you see the consultant

Otherwise it’s case of cutting 1 thing out for 2+ weeks at a time to see if that changes things eg breadth wheat of any kind

Also rather than daily calories think about a weekly average?

It could be stress related too

Or you stop looking at calories and go “eating what I eat makes me stay the same so make small changes”

@geordiegirl - I'm going to say what a few others must be thinking.

Are you under eating ? Sub 1500 i think your body may be in constant starvation mode!

It sounds tough @geordiegirl sorry I can't offer any advice to help.

Forgot to check in last weekend. My weight was up slightly but I suspect it was just a blip after changing diet and routine. Will check again this weekend and make changes if necessary.

I think it’s pretty impossible for a post menopausal woman to not have a belly, especially if that’s also familial fat distribution. Mine has certainly grown whilst fat distribution in other places has reduced or stayed the same. It would only go if I totally starved myself which I’m not prepared to do at post 60. So, I have to eat healthily and put up with it most days and wear a pair of shaping pants for a tight frock or a forgiving top if going out. I don’t like it but trying to be realistic at an older age.

I think that is going to be me too NR, my grandmother, mum and 2 female aunties (mam’s family who I’m def shaped like) had that apple shape.

I think I’ve noticed it more post op, I did get to a shape I was happier with during lockdown but I had massively increased exercise now it’s the norm and while I’m increasing it’s not back to the last 3 year levels.

I don’t know I buy into the starvation mode thing @Gobi but I have in the past joined SW/WW and had to eat more so my default is cut calories.

I do add alcohol calories at weekends but I also drop a meal, as we tend to have brunch over breakfast & lunch.

There’s obviously room for improvement but work and non work life are maxed out at the moment. Maybe a job for retirement and hopefully everyone can just say ‘not working obviously suits you’ 🤣

When the tummy doesn’t bloat I’m largely happy enough with where I am so that does suggest it’s not all in my control.

Thanks for listening to my grumps I’ll be happier next week!
