Another 70 minutes at < 70% for me today. I'm actually targeting 140 rather than 145!! 8:29 pace for the run on an undulating route. I like running ![]() |

Chirunner, Lydiards conditioning phase is very similar to Hadd's base training approach in that they both advocate lots of miles at an easy pace. I am sure Hadd is a massive fan of Lydiard, it's just a modern take on this phase of Lydiards training method. Hadd himself advocates the latter stages of the Lydiard methods like hills, intervals, and sharpening if you can find the threads on lets run. ![]() |

Well done Boab and Tizer. Thought i'd check my RHR for the first time in two years and its still the same :-). Does Lydiard's best aerobic pace = Hadd's ILTHR? Why doesn't Hadd use % in the plans for each max? |

SPR: I'd say so about the paces. As for the %ages. Given that about 20 pages on this thread have been taken up by questions about whether we're talking about MHR or WHR and whether 70% or 75% is easy, I'd say Hadd's trying to keep it simple and precise. Boab: Exactly - Hadd is Lydiard for the modern age with HRMs and Lactate testing. |

Well done Boab and Tizer. Boab, thats a big pb, with no intervals! I think it'll be a while before I touch them again too! |

MTR - Re: Paces, Cool, Thats what I thought but just confirming Re %. That makes sense. And as for the modern Lydiard, Looks like it since Lydiard initally has you running out and back at the same pace, to gain control. Also have the plesantly tired to control your pace so doing the same pace back and forth but being dead at the end means you went too fast. |

And as a little vindication of Hadd/Lydiard training, I clocked 60:20 for the Cabbage Patch 10 this morning. A 2 minute PB off base training - no speedwork since June, and training right through this race. Slightly disappointed not to break the hour on what was a great course in perfect conditions - but truly a run to reaffirm my faith that what I'm doing is working.
