If you think there's no chance of a fire, please feel free to use the lift. Otherwise please use the stairs" (It doesn't mention that the stairs are a deathtrap, even when sober. They slant, each one has it's choice, either front to back or left to right, and between the ground and first floor you have to know to take the corridor to switch, which were once, presumably, different buildings)
