Joking aside, I didn't think I really knew the answer / difference. Top Google answers suggest "inspired from" is nigh-on ridiculous never mind wrong.

The lift notice in our hotel. Plus, it's healthier to use the stairs |

Nice one! Since I'm reading a book with some two hundred year old English in it, I might be tempted to sign it this: Do not use lift and there is a fire. |

um
I read it as "This hotel is over 500 years old. The electrical wiring is probably the same. If you think there's no chance of a fire, please feel free to use the lift. Otherwise please use the stairs" (It doesn't mention that the stairs are a deathtrap, even when sober. They slant, each one has it's choice, either front to back or left to right, and between the ground and first floor you have to know to take the corridor to switch, which were once, presumably, different buildings) |

Your understanding of the sign makes me smile. The situation with the stairs sounds deplorable.

I didn't notice the English was wrong - I read it as in case of a fire.
