Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Sent off my dodgy garmin for a refurb one but got brand new with new ANT stick. the ANT stick is diff to the other one I had. Bearing in mind I had prob with old garmin and / or ANT stick talking with PC I think I will use new ANT stick. Does this mean I need to dis install something on my PC and reinstall? or do I just stick the new one in place of the old one? Thanks

Make sure you've got the most recent version of ANT agent www8.garmin.com
I believe the new little sticks support more ANT channels and a few differences like that, so it's possible older versions of the agent would struggle with it.
Other than that, the agent doesn't care what stick is plugged in. I had a Suunto miniature which I've lost because it's so small, switched back to the big Garmin one and everything worked immediately.

The last while I have been having trouble uploading my training, well saying that it just takes ages uploading to Garmin. I have the latest software for ANT. Wondering if a re set would help, anyone else having this trouble?

Hellen, did you just get a new 310 or did you upgrade?

All behaving itself here apart from having to tell the Ant agent it can trust Fetch (and Strava) EVERY DAY.

No problem at all here. I make a point of keeping the number of files in *that* folder quite small, and archiving the rest off to another folder somewhere. I maybe have a monthly / 6-weekly clear-out where I do that. I notice it speeds up a lot afterwards.

I do the same and it's generally trouble-free - I also notice that it speeds up when it's cleared out. I had to do the much-vaunted "non-volatile reset" on it the other day and it did clear up a problem, it reset every single value in the unit of course, but it was worth it.

The problems I have with the 310XT are restricted to 1) Garmin Communicator's incompatibility with IE11 and 2) the fact that most modern .gpx editors remove the timestamp from a given track, making it impossible to load it onto a wrist-mounted device. I've found that GPSies is a very useful tool and inserts a "false" timestamp into any given .gpx and allows the 310XT to ingest it :-)

GPSies rocks, although I've never had the problem you refer to,
You can make communicator work with IE11 to some extent if you play with the compatibility settings.

I just use Firefox instead.

Try editing a .gpx in Garmin Basecamp and then back into Garmin Connect. It won't touch it unless you run it through GPSies first to put that false timestamp in.

BS, top tip (which is in Fetch's article actually) is deleting the old imported runs from the folder on your computer. Was taking ages for me and sometimes not even uploading (would say Failed) on the import. I'll try and find the link. :-)G

http://www.fetcheveryone.com/article-view.php?id=407 and it says:

Taking absolutely ages
If you find that it takes a long time for the site to build a list of runs for you to pick from, chances are your Garmin (or the folder where Garmin stores its files on your computer) is a bit full up. You can try removing some of the old runs from your Garmin, or you can check out the contents of the Garmin folder, and move some stuff to one side. Look in the section below marked 'Folders Where Things Are Kept' for help in finding the files on your computer.

Folders Where Things Are Kept
Vista and Windows 7 Users:
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\Devices\[DeviceID]\Activities
Windows XP Users:
C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\GARMIN\Devices\[DeviceID\History

etc... helped speed mine up. :-)G
