Mailed the organiser last night, he replied with a few pointers and reccomended the orange course as a good place to start. I'm looking forward to it.

Whether or not it's a good choice remains to be seen.
I got the impression that you were a more experienced Orienteering peep.

Muzzy, I used to do a fair bit in my youth, but recent experience has only been the occasional informal event, and I'm very much midfield at best at the moment. Last Saturday's results have me 11th. Out of 13! Not so good there... the winner did 44:07; I was 85:49. But that one was down as orange/light green. The previous one I did was pure orange, and the times were a lot faster there, 20 mins for the winner, 46 mins for me, 5th of 10.
Look forward to hearing how you do. Hopefully as an informal event, you'll be able to have a good look at the map before you start.

Make sure you have a good look at the key. White is actually forest - but runnable forest.
