Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Reflecting, I concluded that a 'good' off-road race was rooted in sustained training on terrain similar to that of the race. Banging out flattish road miles wasn't near the top of the list. Even so, I enjoyed the challenge and loved the countryside - but the Ultra HM suited me better. :)

I think my first YORUHM was 2010.

Oh god, I'm old.

If I can get close to being able to do 15miles at a faster than crawling pace, I might go and have a trot round at some point in august or September.

For my guaranteed slowest ever completion

Fozzy I've got kit older than you! You've got plenty of time to set pbs, particularly at the longer stuff.

I heard that last night DT.

I am amazed that the Saddleworth Round is still planning on going ahead tomorrow (or so it seems on my brief check)

I thought that this fell under the Greater Manchester restrictions.

We've decided that even if could have a plan for holding Rombalds Romp, it's impossible given the current restrictions applied in the Bradford MBC area.

fozzy, I don't think the Round is guaranteed. They have been planning to go ahead, working with the FRA as one of the Covid trial events. However they still haven't re-opened online entries, and you'd think they'd want all entries online to reduce contact at the start.

So it all seems a bit like "watch this space" to me, and they're cutting it very fine! They do have a reserve date sometime in September iirc...

Flanker - my point was more that the govt restrictions in greater Manchester, calderdale and kirklees aren't going to be removed by tomorrow, and so legally the event *cannot* possibly go ahead.

That's why we've decided (I think) it's not even worth planning for rombalds, even though it's towards the end of September, because we just don't know when govt restrictions on Bradford MBC will be lifted.

Personally, as much as I'd like to go back to doing races myself, I think everyone just needs to accept that it's a complete write-off for 2020 now and we should be looking to get started again in spring 2021, when hopefully a vaccine is available.

The only viable method for holding events at the moment has to be the time trial method and even that's not perf3ct on a fixed route. Orienteering, however, is a different story. That can *almost* go back normal by the end of the year, although i dont think the biggest events are possible.

Fozzy I think the issue Orienteering will run into is land access. The Crowden Horseshoe was on a week ago and then the landowners said no way in the current circumstances. In general with no skin in the game I think most landowners will err on the side of caution for the forseeable future.

Maybe in some locations, FF, but we're holding an event in Leeds in a couple of weeks and they've been v supportive so far, and EBOR have got access to skipwith.

Issue with crowden may well be the proximity to greater Manchester, which has just had restrictions placed on it.

So, whilst maybe some "prime" orienteering areas maybe out, it can go ahead pretty much as normal.

Interestingly, whilst F&M basically saw the birth of urban orienteering, I can see this being the use of terrain areas previously not considered for orienteering too.

Because I'm not sure that urban o will get the go ahead at the moment in many places. Parks and small areas probably the most likely.
