Despite my very much earlier silly guess that we would not see a Waxwing year..it does seem to be happening. The BTO migration blog gives current data...

Report of waxwing in weston-super-mud today...
Saw a flock of 25+ cirl bunting today on the south Devon coast. Lifetime tick for me. One would have been enough

Cirl bunting - ace!
I'm facing death by waxwing. Every flock of medium size bird I see from the car needs checking out with consequent danger of crashing
No sign of them tonight in the Flying Duck or Agraah

What a great tick Dochart. I suppose you know that in Thurleston (Devon) there has been a Desert Wheatear present for several days and still there yesterday. Me too looking out for Waxwings although trees around here are berryless.

Easy spot yesterday. Driving down into the village and I thought, "mmm, there's a group of starlings that aren't starlings"

So I am getting closer to the elusive kingfisher. Walked round the river in the rain this morning to rest my legs after the Conwy HM. No sign of the kingfisher in the spot where several local photographers have caught it, no sign as usual.
Get onto the other side of the river, climb up onto the dike that I always walk along for a good view of everything and I startle a couple of oystercatchers. At the same time I see a bright turquoise/green bird flying off along one of the man made drainage cuts, in fact identical territory to where the kingfisher has been spotted on the other side of the river. Size wise it was definitely right and in the right kind of area, but just flew off too quick down the cut for me to get a positive ID.
Not seen them myself but large numbers of waxwings have apparently been spotted in Glan Conwy this week, so they have reached North Wales.
As for my garden, what exotica have I seen using my bird feeders and more particularly my window feeder? Tits, the robin? Maybe the sparrows or starlings? Nope, this ugly so and so has squeezed in.......
