Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Dead swan (pile of feathers, really - couldn't find a ring) at a pond and was told fox. Thought a dog was more likely, especially as there is plenty of easier potential prey around. I supose the swan could have been ill or injured beforehand, though

I've no idea but think it'd take a pack of dogs to kill a swan

Could be people or a large dog or couple of dogs, sad whatever, I think its unlikely to be a fox.

Flock of 50+ lapwing over the fields at the edge of the moor today. Three or four weeks early compared to most years.

Flocking lapwing a feature here recently plus a mini-murmuation of starling today. Oh, and our local house sparrows were very "chirpy" this morning

Would a swan not break a fox's leg with its wing?

Saw a kingfisher here in Malta yesterday. :)

Apparently they don't breed here but are a regular migrant.

No lapwings or plovers here this winter. Also sad to see local barn owl hunting in daylight, 3 times now in 4 days, feel bad for disturbing it & not sure but think it must be desperate - too wet to hunt at night. But, lots of songbirds at first light 😀, so many thrushes
