Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

20-ish cattle egret arrived in a single flock at the local pond this afternoon. it's been an out-of-breeding-season roost for little egret for some years but it's the first time I've seen cattle egret here, so a patch tick!

in full young starling season here - they are getting through fatballs quicker than the jackdaws were. So noisy - and so much mess on my poor car, but I do love to see them :)

The yellowest “greenfinch” - (according to Merlin) that I’ve ever seen.

I've been watching Springwatch and it showed footage from a few years ago when all but one of the great tit fledglings (which had been raised by bluetits) were predated by a jay as they left the nest box. I'm now sadly convinced that this is what happened to our bluetit chicks here a few days ago, too - there was definitely a jay hanging around in the area by our nestbox, some agitation among the bluetits, and no sign of any young ones out and about since, and they would definitely have fledged by now. Sad.

I saw 5 treecreepers on one tree today - parent and 4 young. The young were nimble and able to flit from tree to tree. Made my day.

Ooh, how exciting, @Red Squirrel ! One of my favourite birds, which I don't see nearly often enough. When I do, it's usually on an old oak tree.

Any ideas on this? Googe says Siskin or even a US Pine Siskin (very unlikely on UK!), but it was mostly inverted on the peanuts rather than upright as 'normal'?

Thanks!
