Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

LD - mysterious beeps in cars can be for many, many reasons.

If it's only just started recently, it could be because the temperature has dropped below a given threshold and the car is telling you.

Other things it could be include :-

A heavy object on a passenger seat that's not strapped in
An arbitrary speed warning that has been set
Your headlights switch is in the Parking position
Your driving too close to the lines in the road and the Driver Alert system thinks your asleep !

Or none of these things :-)

Never watched Phoenix Nights, RD was okay to start with but needed to disappear into a black hole years ago, not going to vote for the other two, so took the neither/both option.

Thanks BL! It's not the first of those possibilities but it's potentially something like the last - we thought we didn't have that lane alert thing but these beeps have only started since the car had all its software updated. I have a feeling it now thinks we have that alert, when actually, we don't! The next time it happens I'll make a note of where I am in the road ;-)

On my motorbikes I've learned to do most "service" jobs and can change the oil, coolant, filters, hydraulic fluids, brake pads, spark plugs, etc. Things deep inside the engine are beyond me but I reckon without too much more learning I could replace clutch plates and fork oil [as in, I do my own servicing... what does it cost? Fork Oil !]

I'm not nearly so capable on cars but replacing wiper blades is easy-peasy! [And Halfords sell Bosch ones as well as their own brand]

I’ve got a CBR600 and a VFR800, both ~20 years old, and I do all the work myself. Likewise my 14-year old Discovery and my 54-year old Series. MrsC's “new” Astra gets sent to the dealership for most stuff but I do blades/bulbs etc myself.

It is a fact that very new cars need a diagnostic computer for most things; you’d have to do a lot of work to mitigate the cost of one of those.

You couldn't even replace bulbs in my last Audi. You had to remove half the bodywork (front bumper and something else) to access them.

The Bosch blades are £1 cheaper at Halfords. So I still say the dealer is offering a pretty decent price! :-) G

Try this: wiperblades.co.uk

I have Bosch blades on my California and also on my Audi - it gets expensive replacing them!

Shocked you cant do your own wiper blades in all honesty. I did mine (used a Bosch) literally with one hand.

And why go to Halfords? your town or city will have loads of independent motor factors selling the same stuff but cheaper, I just looked at the cost of my wiper blade at Halfords £19, I paid £10 at the independent.

Sorry I'm sounding like a snob but come on people learn some skills.
