Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I’m not quite sure which route we went up Barf, but it seemed to go vertically up for around a mile and involved a fair amount of scrambling. We were going to add Graystones as well, but Mr HB had a broken toe and I had a broken finger which really didn’t enjoy scrambling, so felt we were pushing our luck slightly

I think you'd know if you went up Slape Crag as there is one particular scramble with a lot of exposure to the left. Keswick MRT blackspot.

Trying to remember how I've been up in the past. Is the "normal" route W along the gill from Bassenthwaite side, then NE up skirting Slape?

I think that's the way we went with Dave & Stu, and unknown to (most of us) K carrying a very small Stu junior!). I've still got the scar on my arse from that day out!

I've also been up by The Bishop at some point in the dim and distant.

Yes, that's right. The problem is that for years there's been a signpost to the bottom of Slape Crag and people naturally think that's the correct way to go. To access the scramble up Slape you do have to climb the lower screes and pass The Bishop (it would be on your right).

It was definitely only 4 miles Phal ;)

There are 2 things I remember from that walk - Flanker sliding down the fellside, and Special*K endlessly harassing me to find her tomato soup!

[I should point out that it was Stu's K, not Kinky, carrying a foetal Stu Junior!]

Ta, NE. I remember that scramble past the Bishop vaguely. I only seem to remember most things vaguely these days!

Just 4 miles 🤪😂🤣 Although I've just dug out the route in my log, and it says 11.39. How peculiar.
