Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

There's no rush Dio, don't do it til you feel ready. It's hard, emotionally and physically to clear through a family home.

LG if you need somewhere to stay don't forget I'm only half an hour up the motorway from Bristol.

And to everyone on this thread coping with immense challenges, you're all being stars, even if you don't always believe that heart

Aw thanks LD heart

My sister has just been in to see him and sent a photo so I will phone her later. He looks quite well considering but he wasn’t sure who my sister was….I suppose a year is a long time for someone with dementia :-(

Dio , if you don’t have to rush then don’t (( ))

No rush, but I do want to get it all done as soon as possible so I can then forget all about it.

Hugs to all in want and need.

Family is being a right royal P.I.T.A to dad - confiding in him and swearing him to not inform x, y, or z of this and/or that ~ generally sidelining the person who really _should_ be dealing with it rather than dad! Fortunately he's talking to me (I generally don't talk to the rest of the family anyway 😉 ) which, hopefully is lessening his stress level and therefore not adding much to my own 🤣 .

I'm of the opinion that much of the stuff he's sworn to secrecy over is complete bull dust (I've got family which naturally conceived and took to full term, a healthy child ... after hubby had had both chemo and radiotherapy 😉 ... ). But it could all be true, I guess ... 🤔 multiverse theory and all that 😉

Ultra Sparkly Bridget (USB)
After two days of the NHS assessing my mother’s leg over the phone someone came out and saw it in the flesh today. Outcome is that she is headed to the hospital for an assessment this afternoon and likely to be admitted for more IV antibiotics. My brother is buying some ready meals for my father which means he’ll be fed but no idea how he is going to manage a cup of tea when he struggles to see what he is pouring.

Very confused call with my mum last night in which she suggested she is going to be put on insulin at home and the district nurse will teach her how to do it.

Now thinking how to handle it. If that really is the GP's plan i am going to think of a polite way to ask them if they happened to be off sick for the bit of med school where you actually meet real life patients. It's preposterous and wholly unsafe.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
