Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I was listening to a random BBC Sounds drama while doing the housework today, it was about a woman struggling to be a playwright in New York. About half-way through it mentions writing letters to get old books from a London bookshop in the 40s. I thought "that sounds like the plot 84 Charing Cross Road, how odd" And then at the end of the drama it was revealed that the story was about the woman who wrote it - d'oh! I guess I should have recognised her name :-)

Just wanted to ask a question of the thread - Am I the only person in the world who didn’t particularly like the Adrian Mole book(s) (I only read the first one) and didn’t find them funny? I can see the humour in them, but it doesn’t provoke in me the laugh-out-loud reaction others had. I found it a bit lame

I loved them but I was a teenager at the time. I did reread one and it was good, just not as brilliant as when I first read it.

I read them when they first came out. Can't recall if I laughed-out-loud or just sniggered to myself.

I liked the first one I think but not LOL. I don't like awkward humour much
