Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Riding last year in several hours of moderately heavy rain, the chap next to me waxed lyrical about his waxed chain routine.

The squeaking and creaking noises revealed that the wax did not survive the rain.

Escape Collective have covered this extensively on their tech podcast and website so that’s worth a look

On a different subject... I have some spectacular road rash from earlier in the week. I have dressings, but they are sticking to it in an annoying fashion.

My initial response was to keep the dressing off whenever possible to let the air get to it, and for it to dry out. But apparently this is a treatment from the dark ages, and the internet suggests (if money is no object) a hydrocolloid dressing, esp. Duoderm. These come in at about £5 each!

The internet also suggests Tegaderm as an alternative to hydrocolloid, which is a bit cheaper but not as good?

Anybody have any experience, recommendations (other than mtfu)?

Depends, jacdaw. If you've got any deep oozing gouges, hydrocolloid dressings are really useful. If the rash is all clean and superficial, leaving it uncovered is fine if you can avoid your clothes sticking to it. Paraffin gauze dressings (Jelonet) are another non-stick option.

There is a big damp area about 10x10cm, sticking to everything! No deep gouges, just the surface layer(s) neatly planed off.

That's going to stick to everything. I'd suck up the expense and get a big hydrocolloid dressing. If you were closer I could probably give you one that's about ten years past its best before date, because I used to be like a vulture when the dressings cupboard at work was being cleared out.

Not sure where to put this, but terrible news Sir Chris Hoy has announced he has terminal cancer 2-4 years prognosis. So sad, such an amazing athlete and person. :-(
