Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I got into walking recently myself after a running injury. I wasn't keen on walking previously, but due to my running, I knew a fair few local good walks. It also helps living near the South Downs, so lots of good long walks still to be explored, and the weather isn't generally to bad either. I just noticed that I've actually walked 192 miles in September (encouraged by being in WSW multiplayer). I have bought the local OS explorer maps, and expect to do a few more miles over the winter

I was getting used to mine last trip, think they need a fair bit of practice to make the best use of them. Took a while to get the hang of stowing and retrieving them from my pack too - but again with practice that should be OK

Didn't half get DOMS in my shoulders after the first trip - think I was gripping too hard and trying to pull myself along a bit too much.

I need to find a hill to practice on some more - preferably where I'm not being laughed at on our 30M max slopes around here!

Re gripping them - I remember being shown how to tension the looped straps so that your wrists rest on them and take much of the load, which means you don't grip so tightly. (May not be so relevant for running, of course.)

Yes, that's how I was shown and it certainly felt the right way to do it - but for really steep bits and getting up "steps" I think I was hanging on too much

920 miles so far in 2020 so will get to my 1000 mile target in the next few days.

Never targeted walking before but to retain sanity and to aid weight loss goals it has been a real godsend this year.
