Autumnleaves
Took the words out of my mouth Fenners - over-striding much more of a problem long-term Creeping forwards - 65/100 after today's Resolution run

Thanks for the feedback Fenners, NDWD, AL - I certainly feel like a more efficient runner, and seem to be less injury prone than I was in my 20s, so I shan't worry about it anymore

Fenland (Fenners) Runner
If you ever get chance to watch flanker and KinkyS run they have a shortish high cadence style and they are very successful runners.
Unfortunately over 5k I revert to long strides.

Well done to those over the line and achieving annual targets. I will cross the line on Monday, but for now I'm on 90/100.

NYEDave
As a 6 footer running at 180 steps per minute doing 10+ minute miles feels a bit silly to start with but I seem to have avoided injury as a result. On longer slower runs, I throw in short walking breaks to stretch things out. More steps per minute travelling at the same speed means a lower impact

Well run in the park jenny..best time this year! Yep, everyone accepts that there's a "best" cadence of around 184..but Chi running reckons a bit lower than that at around 170 (which is what I do, varying stride length to inclines and terrain etc)). Over striding can cause injuries but if the Chi method of a particular "lean" from the ankle is utilised then stride length increases within an individual's capacity without over stretching. I can't do it! And then glute strength and a bit of a focus on non-shuffling is supposed to speed us up. I never followed any of these principles/thoughts when I was quite good..maybe it would have made me a better runner. I do do all kinds of strengthening etc these days because the older body needs it! NYEDave is spot on about less impact. I'm sure though that Mo's cadence isn't quite as high as we've been talking about until he hits the final laps.

Happy Christmas all!
Well done on your continuing streaks Fenners and Steve
I have parkrunned - ran with Mr J this morning, after 28:50 yesterday he was quite tired, so we just took it really easy today. Seemed to be a pretty big turnout!
