Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Certainly is deceptive and I was deliberately very conservative in the first 8 miles. Glad I was, I caught a girl from Chard (localish to me) at about 17 miles who had gone off too quick.

The interesting thing about seeing people several times is you can see how they are doing. It was clear to me that your club mate was working a bit harder than you at 14 miles and *very* evident by 20.

Oscar, yes, I overtook 5 people in the last 6 miles, if I include my club mate who was ahead of me at the turn around. I think a couple of them were going for sub-3:30s but maybe hadn't anticipated how hard the last hill back up can be.

It is a very different challenge. I am pretty sure I will go back.

One to forget for me. Urrrgh.

On both the 2.5hr journey up and back to Worcester Marathon, I was met with torrential rain, but fortunately the race stayed mainly dry. That's the highlight of the race report :)

The organisers set runners off in groups of 6, according to hoped for finish time and I had put myself in the 3:20 group which kind of felt realistic at the time I entered it. Although runners were in groups of 6, we started individually so I ran the entire race on my own apart from overtaking a few half marathon runners on the 2nd loop.

The race started and ended outside Worcester Warriors rugby ground, and took us out into the country and up through the undulating lanes. It is a nice course, but I struggled a lot in the 2nd half. I think I went through half way in about 1:42 and at that time was at least hoping for a sub-3:30 but I was really hanging on from 16 miles with a lot of run/walking I'm afraid.

In the end I finished in a chip time of 3:48:04 so the second half quite a bit over 2hrs today.

Not really sure what went wrong. The first half didn't feel unduly fast really, but later I just had nothing and felt like I was kind of running on fumes a bit. Obviously I was pleased with Shepperdine and Plym Trail, but really since Plym Trail I've not really been enjoying my running all that much in that it's been a chore to get out in some ways. Certainly the week after Plym Trail I was unusually tired as well, even though I felt pretty comfortable at that event.

Not sure what to do in the run up to DD now. I feel I do need to recover a bit in some ways for DD as if that was today, it would have been awful. Any ideas? Main aim is to keep the weight off but I may not worry too much about weekly mileage for the next 3 weeks and just do what I feel in terms of mileage, even if that's quite short runs. There's always Zwift too, which doesn't take as much out of me if I ride at an easy effort.

Anyway, it's another one ticked and although I was hoping for better, it wasn't to be today. Onwards and upwards :)

Some days are just like that. Sounds like you need a mental break. Maybe a bit of off road or some other change to routine. Work is in the bank for DD though.

North Downs Way 50 tomorrow. Farnham to Knockholt (nr Sevenoaks) Not really had any consistent running since SDW50 5wksago, two falls for which I'm still taking painkillers, a wisdom tooth extraction which felt like a scene from a SAW film and the weather is not looking great! Getting all my excuses in! I'm actually looking forward to it! 😂
