No internet or computers for most of us Andrew when I began keeping written/paper logs of all my runs. I still do...actually prefer "hard copy" to muse over now and again! Got boxes of diaries and use " The Complete Runner's Day -by-Day Log (2017) Calendar" logs now---full of inspirational quotes and monthly articles/tips.. In fact even stop watches hadn't really arrived and when they did they cost a fair bit--my first Casio Stopwatch cost around £24 which was a lot compared to what they cost now. Yes I hope all goes well and you're clipping at my heels after the op Peter, you do seem to recover quickly from difficult times so my "lead" isn't secure!

Steve, I think I would have been too lazy (or maybe too busy rearing children! if I'd been running in pre-digital days.
I started logging the miles/times in a spreadsheet for about a year so before getting a GPS watch (Garmin) which is still ridiculously over-specified for most of what I do with it! (Garmin 405).
Entertainingly, strava occasionally tells me I've beat a personal record - it doesn't know I was running before strava existed!

And in other news, I'm catching up steadily, even though I'm a bit kn@ck3r3d today! Just a gentle 5 miles or so tomorrow (local parkrun cancelled due to horses using the space) with the eldest, and then Sunday will truly be a day of rest!
Feeling smug - 8 miles this morning each of which was slightly faster than the preceding one. Eyes out and gasping at the very end. (Upload later :-).)

I was rearing kids Mmm, one was born four months before I started running, the other was six years old but there was plenty of opportunity to do the written log! I had a Garmin shortly after they came on the market, HRM too and some years before. I don't think that any of the gadgetry has made any difference to my running although it's good fun to have. 7 easy miles in nice fresh conditions this morning.

I see you're still putting in some miles Mrsb; long time on your feet though for 7 miles in 9 hours?

699.95/1000 and #50 after a thorough drenching this morning. Am I going out again for last 0.05? No way. Actually could be just over 700 as Garmin battery died in last mile, but there again had to walk some of today's off road hilly race (through dense vegetation) so what's a number?

Got both hearts back!
This morning's gentle 5 turned into a 10k with the son - we need to hold that 6k pace over the remaining 4k to get his sub-55. He's now about 3 kilo's lighter than me! (The slowing up wasn't down to me. ;-))

1st run today since last Sunday a steady 10 miles. Missed runs on Tuesday and Thursday because of some late finishes at work resulting in getting up in time for lunch.
Well done everyone for getting out there.
