Never mind all of this cassette changing im struggling with changing inner tubes on my road bike , mountain bike no probs but on the road bike either there is some beading sticking out over the rim or I get a bulge in the tyre.
What am I doing wrong knowledgable peeps ?

These make refitting tyres to a road wheel MUCH easier. I've been cycling for 20+ years, and I use them all the time:
sjscycles.co.uk

They make it easier to pull those last few inches of bead over the rim, without breaking your thumbs or losing skin.

52-42 is pretty steep especially with a 25 on the back. Changing to a compact on the front (50-34) would make things much easier. And it's the length of mech rather than the hanger you need to consider. What speed is it?

Wildebeast - you've got much less room in the road tyre so you really need to tuck everything in tight. Get the tyre on, inflate a little, then have a look and make sure everything is tucked in. Then inflate again. Keep checking until you are sure everything is where it should be.

I've just tried to service the brakes on the boys Frog bike, and on trying to unscrew the second front brake arm, the post unscrewed from the fork... :(
Ive tried holding it with a mole grip to undo the bolt, but it just strips the cheap steel/alloy away and spins. I can get it back in the fork, but the brake arm still need cleaning/greasing and is now really out of balance with the other side.

Can you buy the posts? If so what would you call them?

Which Frog bike is it, and what type of brake?

Good plan Larkim, don't know why I didn't think of that.

It's a '62' from what I can see on the frame, v brake.

I see they've done an 'Isla' and become ferociously expensive, think I paid less than £180 for the 62 a few years ago, now £300 :O

One of my son's rides a 62, well worth even the £270 we paid for it as he really benefits from the light weight. Had to put wider bars on it though as it was too twitchy for him (he has a learning disability so a slower response is better for him!).

I can't quite work out which bit of the brake you're referring to, I'll make a note to take a look tonight on mine. I presume you're not thinking that you've stripped the thread in the fork, are you? If so, that would be a helicoil or a new thread tapping required.

The picture under 'spring adjustment' shows it best I suppose. Where the brake arm attaches to the frame, there is a brazed on 'nut' into which the post that the brake arm pivots on screws. The arm is held in place with the outer hex bolt. Loosening the hex bolt, has removed the post from the brazed on nut, however I can't grip the post sufficiently well to remove the hex bolt.
