I noticed but was never going to mention it. I was going to let you give your clean living the credit rather than the profile!

Yeah, Bazo was racing the Commonwealth Games marathon runner and just announced Scottish ultra team member, that very same Ross Houston. scottishathletics.org.uk (I'm just posting this cos Keziah from our club is in the women's team - do I get some reflected glory. I coach her, I'll have you know. Well, I shout at her when she's doing her tempos. Similar?)

Enjoyed that today, well done Bazo, great time, PB showing great progress, esp given horrendous conditions. Someone used the expression "sleet needles" in a blog that I read recently. Very apt for today's wee race! Thanks for your analysis of my pace - I'm hoping 7:2x should be doable next week, so will try and start steady and dig in at the end for a 3:15.

Some great solid long runs being posted, and some impressive speed. Lovely wee ad hoc sub 3:15 for BS! :-) G

A few people have commented that my long run yesterday was too fast! the P&D schedule had 17 miles total with 14 @ MP so I'm not too worried. However. I am now trying to work out what to do for my final few long runs. I have a 20 miler (Locke Park 20) in a couple of weeks. I was going to aim for another longer MP run but not sure now. Any thoughts anyone?

It must be approaching spring marathon season, as the thread has really come to life in the past week or so. Some great running yesterday guys and girls. Well done to BS on another 3:15, to Huntsman and Baz for the PBs, and to Windsor, Chrisull, Lou, Gus, RFJ, and Jovi for the Long Runs.

As others have said, I’m sure you made the right decision Joe.

22miles for me yesterday evening, to cap of my highest weekly mileage ever (by 0.3mile!;-)), and coming at the end of my highest monthly mileage ever in February. The only downside was a dodgy stomach, but as I was running laps I could easily have gone home early, so I’m glad I won the mental battle and did the full distance I'd planned. Interesting discussion between Chris and Lou re: hilly vs undulating, my run yesterday included 1095ft of elevation gain and I’d definitely class it as hilly!

Are you mini-tapering for Sunday’s marathon :-)G or are you going to train through it?

Jovi, how about a "Gobi-style" progressive 20? (5mi@9:00mm, 5mi@8:30mm, 5mi@8mm, 5mi@7:26mm)

If you are following P&D Jovi, I would stick with what it tells you. Then longer MP sections are designed to build, as you get closer to your peak. Don't mess with it would be my advice. They are excellent plans, with the right amount of hard + recovery and get you to race day in perfect shape, imho and imle (in my limited experience - I just made that up, do you like it?!) Very best of luck all.

I've got a marathon in 6 days. Eeep! (not really!) :-) G

On the hilly front - my run felt hilly and was evidenced by me being dropped by the guys on almost every climb! When it flattened to undulating I could catch them or they would wait for me at major road crossings! Given that my flat is at sea level, I have the option to do mainly flat running so these runs for me are hilly! Everest was used as a comparison yesterday ;)
