First attempt at a jog since Sunday this morning. F@#k me that was hard work. Managed about 10 mins with a walking break before turning round. Glad I didn't enter the 3peaks on April 25th!

With the benefits of a few days perspective I'm torn between still feeling a bit disappointed that I didn't run a smarter race for maybe 2:58, versus pretty pleased with a good performance on what turned into a hot and windy 2nd half on a slightly long course. Plenty of better runners finished with up to +10 min positive splits (I was +5:30), and my overall position of 206 would have been sub-3 on every one of the last 5 years.

Bazo, yes I would think your pacing decision is pretty straightforward - it has to be close to 6:52s, even on marco you'd never be as much as a minute down on that. I was thinking more of someone not daring to even aim at sub-3 who mght regret a Marco plan when it leaves them too much to catch up later on. Also, I don't think a small slowdown can be significantly suboptimal - haven't most peoples' PBs been set like that? Mine certainly have for both full and half marathon, for all that the neg split runs feel great.

57.5 Degrees of Pain
Most PBs are positive splits because most races are run that way, whether it is efficient or not. And of course at two of the biggest marathons, London and Boston, the downhill start makes a small positive split the most effective strategy. I actually PBed at an out and back race with a turnaround at the same level as the start/ finish, on a fairly still day. We need more of them for statistical comparison purposes! Didn't negative split by the way, but I was close.

I am planning to repeat a sub 3 this year but today's race was was always meant to be a build up race for TP100 and I knew I wasn't quite in sub 3 shape yet this year. Given this I was pleasantly surprised to achieve 3:02:13 on a tough course today (Bungay) which bodes well for a sub 3 later in the year on a non hilly course. Great race and organisation incidentally.
