Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I agree BMI is simplistic and inaccurate. Like they say Johnny Wilkinson's BMI makes him obese !?!
re- earlier post about body fat percentage should 8-10% for competition; well I wasn't paying attention - it was late last night. My visceral fat is 8 but my Body Fat is 7.2%. So I'm a skinny bastard after all but my BMI is distorted by my leg muscles.

I've seen "Fat Biker" t-shirts often, but I've never seen "Skinny Biker" t-shirts

I'm happy, just wish I weighed 5kg less and was able to levitate up hills. Body fat was measured at 19% at the gym using electrodes, which is too high but may not be accurate of course.

Only accurate way of measuring BF is calipers (as far as I know) :)

I was measured at 10% with calipers in February and the scales at home measured me at 18%. They are a good indication of falling or increasing BF, but accurate they are not.

Ha Ha Ha :):):)

For a BMI of 18.5, I'd need to be 9½ stone!

Anyone who has met me will tell you that I'd have to have a severe eating disorder for that - or be about to die!
Ridiculous!

EB looks well fit and skinny to me... :-) no need to worry about weight... I think the problem is that we are all different and we are measuring ourselves against some statistic table... I am sure my BMI is not accurate. No idea how low my bodyfat is, frankly, I am not going to bother anymore finding out. What is most inportant is how you feel, and at the moment I feel great! I am fit and healthy and running well. OK, I am a little thin to my liking, but as that comes from the running I love so much, which I don't want to stop doing, I have decided I am going to stop obesessing about it and enjoy the fact that theoretically that makes me a few minutes faster on my half marathon and full marathon times :-)

My BMI is 23 exactly. If I get to 11st6lbs it will be 21.5 which I think would be ideal.

Big Al, how tall are you? (relative to that weight?)

About This Thread

Big Al Widepants is trying to lose weight because an article in Runner's World told him he could expect to knock 4 minutes off his half marathon time if he got closer to his ideal weight.
