As suggested by our first trainer (mainly because it was part of the good citizens tests) we went through a regular routine at the end of every walk of giving Wanda a 'check over' which included looking in her mouth, rolling back her lips to look at her teeth but I have never actually tried to clean her teeth - again she has dentastix which I doubt do any good at all as two bites and they have gone! But as a result of the 'daily checkover' she is pretty tolerant of me administering any other things such as ear drops, eye drops, bathing wounds and so on.
Boots is still settling in with you so perhaps just a no fuss, check over every time he comes home from a walk with a treat at the end of course, may eventually build up from "I'm just going to look in your mouth" to "I'm just going to look in your mouth for a little longer than I did last week" to "Lets just see if I can put my finger on your teeth for a second." It will be great if you can build up to eventually cleaning his teeth without fuss but it doesn't matter if it takes you several months to build up to doing that and he has a dentastix until then. He probably hasn't had his teeth cleaned before he arrived with you and these doggy toothpaste manufacturers have to make their money somehow!!!! (Maybe I am just too cynical)

So Arlo has had his vacvinations today (just one more week until we can get him out 😬). The vet commented that he has tonnes of energy......yes, we have noticed 😂
She checked him over first as wasn't sure about the vaccinations with the diarrhoea and blood but said everything else was great so went ahead.
She thought the issue could be giardia, so have panacur now for 5 days. If it doesn't clear up then have to get samples, but fingers crossed he will be OK in a few days.

Wanda has a small thorn (or similar - almost like a splinter) stuck in the top of her eyelid. She is not at all bothered by it (as in she isn't rubbing her face or shaking her head or anything) but we cannot get it out and I'm a little worried that it could get infected/start hurting if left too long. Also it's not easy to fiddle about with to attempt to get it out.
If today was a Monday and the vets were going to be open all week I'd probably give it a day or two to see what happened but given that our out of hours service is now quite some distance away and some clients have sat for three hours in the car park before being seen I worry that if it didn't just come out we could be letting ourselves in for an expensive and stressful OOH visit by Sunday afternoon.
Most likely going to ring the vet later this morning but just wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience?

Sorry not had that experience. I am impressed that Wanda will let you anywhere near. Ernie frequently gets ticks near his eyes and he will not let us near.

Rory got something like that (looked like a tiny splinter) in his nose and wouldn’t let me fiddle with it to get it out. Eventually I managed to remove it by wiping him with a baby wipe! Must have stuck to it and pulled it out.

I will give that a go Mazlin - thanks. The vets can't give me an appointment before Thursday anyway so I'm going to keep it clean and hope it doesn't get infected and hope that bathing/wiping it will get it out on its own.

Wobbling
Good luck with Wanda
Week 2 school report: 7.5/10. Definitely 5/5 for behaviour, no growling at other dogs, said hello nicely to a couple. We were v pleased. He did well on the ‘leave’ command but ‘drop it’ involved getting him to drop one treat because he’s been distracted by another of the same variety. He did it once and cottoned on that this meant he wouldn’t get to chew his fish stick, so wouldn’t give up the treat at all. Second element of the ‘drop it’ command was waving a high value treat under his nose to distract him from the chew. Although we knew he loves fish we didn’t realise he prefers fish over cheese or sausage. So the last past of the class was Boots gnawing on fish chews while D&I tried not to look concerned by his lack of focus.
Once we got home, I took him for a walk. He met 2 dogs without displaying a fear response and engaged with one if them. There were a good half dozen men out and about too and again no fear response. Lots of progress and we’re relieved & delighted. I’ve realised when he’s tired he gets more frightened so I’m going to try to shorten his walks a bit to ~45 mins rather than the 1hr+ he’s been getting.
A good dog day.

Thata great Wobbling, he js making good progress. We start a puppy classes in a weeks time. He is starting to sit, and paw and responds to the whistle and here already.
Still diarrhoea and blood but fully changed his food now and changed his treats after some advice from pets at home.
Still been waking between half 4 and half 5 and is desperate to be outside for a poo, however this morning I slept in and it was half 6. He was fine and didn't sprint to the door like normal. He did have a poo, no blood in it, so possibly getting better.

I do hope he is on the mend now Roberto.
Never had that problem luckily Baroness but if it's not bothering Wanda it may well work its own way out anyway. Hope so, Wanda has told Flossie she doesn't want another vet visit thank you

Sounds promising Roberto And Wobbling - good progress at class by the sound of it. Wanda definitely has a shorter walk and sometimes really short just over the local playing field for a 15 minute sniff around after she's been to school as she is so tired with all that concentrating!
The thorn hasn't moved and I think she is getting less impressed with having a wipe, wet flannel, soaked cotton wool dabbed around her eye every evening - but it still doesn't seem to be bothering her and it's not infected or anything so we're hoping even if it takes a few more days it will come out on its own now.
