Good news about Ernie.
Very unsettled post anaesthetic last night for Phoebe, also for me, Alix and Cookie. Both dogs now crashed out. They spent the night in our room to keep an eye on her. Lots of whimpering and she had the cone of shame on.
More chicken this morning. The metacam has kicked in so should be a more settled day for them both.

Poor Phoebe - hope she is soon feeling better.
We also had a chicken and rice day here yesterday after Wanda was a little too greedy for her own good (a fairly common occurrence!) I will spare you the details.......

I wouldn't have minded a chicken and rice day for Lottie today - instead she sniffed out a dead rat, in an advanced state of decomposition, in a hedgerow and walked around for a good 10 minutes before I could persuade her to drop it. The treats I had with me were no match for the rat and she kept out of grabbing reach.
In the end, I managed to get her to drop it by making a big fuss of throwing a big stick for Flossie, and - typical dog behaviour - Lottie wanted to take the stick off Floss and dropped the rat.
Dogs can be gross at times

When Ernie was quite young he retrieved a dead rat from the bottom of the local burn. QP somehow managed to get it off of him. We were out for a walk with his new dog walker so she could get to know him

so does Ralph - he kills rats and then runs around them barking as if to say "come on then, that's boring, keep playing"

Jess is hopeless, she has never caught anything. She just gets 'annoyed' with cats, some birds and foxes.

Rory can't catch anything. He didn't even do a very good job with the bird that fell down the chimney, or the pigeon that had already been attacked by a fox, tried to fly away, and basically fell out of the sky onto his head.

Wanda has caught at least three rabbits (one a baby) and killed two of them, several birds some we have managed to save, others not and the one I am proudest of but also most horrified at - a mole!!! I did get her to drop that and it was still alive at the time. Given the right opportunity (eg if one was stupid enough to get into our garden and act like it owned the place) I am sure she would catch (with the intention of killing) a cat.
She also jumps on little mice and things but I have never actually seen what the outcome is. If she were to present me with a rat, whether alive or dead, I actually think I might pass out.....
