Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

57.5 Degrees of Pain
I look down people's mouths about 30 hours a week, and at a screen the rest of the time. That gives me great incentive to hit the fresh air!

So, how did everyone's training go at weekend. Only 14 weeks to race day and only 12 with a taper, if you look at it like that. Or 3 big weekends, if you go by the "one a month" approach that John K advocates.

I've got 1 x 55 mile race, plus probably 2 x big weekends - end April/early May e.g. 40+20, one end May similar? That's not many more big sessions left!

Marathon went OK at weekend. A bit under 3:13, but it felt very hard. Was great to get to run with grant mac, Scottish ultra team member. Some good tips and chat from him. But was too fast for me and I paid for it with a very painful last 6 or 8 miles. Ouch. Oh well, a couple rest days (gym, swim and just a wee, slow 4 miler) and then building back up again.

I see John K got a cracking time at Inverness half. How did anyone/everyone else go? :-) G

Looking good :)G - shows you've still got good speed going into the last 12weeks :)

Gartmorn 6 for me where i struggled quite badly from the off. Got pipped by _Andy in the last mile in what proved to be a tough wee race although a race i'll hopefully return to next year!

Going to be part of a midsummer relay team which runs alongside the WHW race - very excited :-) The highland fling relay a few years ago was such a brilliant experience so I'm hoping this will be similar. I'm only doing 10 miles but its the stretch between Glencoe and Kinlochleven which I believe has the Devils Staircase so it'll be challenging :) My training is mostly climbing up big hills in the Pentlands!

Best part of the WHW Jambomo! And it's net downhill. You go down from the ski centre, then undulate up and down to bottom of Deil's Staircase, then a short climb (it's really only a mile and less than 1,000ft and you can do it in 20 mins or so) then you've got a lovely 6 miles almost all downhill to KLL. It is a *long* way down though and does seem to take ages!

Probably won't see you though because the relay sets off at midday from Tyndrum. So unless your first 2 leg people are v slow, I won't be anywhere near there by that time!

Stoosh, you and _andy are both super quick. Bet that was a good wee battle! Thanks for the positive words too. :-) G

Stoosh, I feel bad now for not realising that was you as we left the dam. I was focused on trying to catch Nick (from Ochils Hill Runners) although I'd warmed up earlier with him and told him how to beat me at the end - oops, didn't think I'd be with him at the end. I do remember putting in a sprint at the very end as you closed a bit near the finish. Hey, well done at not getting chicked!

I enjoyed the relay Jambomo it's a great wee race and you get to experience seeing some of the full race. I was on leg 3 so only went past 5th and 6th in the main race but saw more runners at earlier checkpoints, like a half naked Johnny Fling at Tyndrum haha.

One of my training runs for Glenmore G was fort William back to Bridge of Orchy, that climb out of Kinlochleven goes on and on and on and on!!

Doing the same leg in this years relay and will hopefully go quicker this year off the back of fling training.

lol _Andy - not being chicked was the only thing in my mind in the last half mile although it was looking grim until the last 100mtrs ;-) I'd hoped to catch you as well but left myself to much to do in the end ;-)

Got a nice 12m run in today before the wind picked up, it's wild out there :-o

I got beaten at the Hazlehead parkrun by my 15yo son! It was a very enjoyable run. I'm really loving the taper to D33.

Taper? Are we meant to taper? That's like cheating really.
