HappyG, if you're a 'completer' it really doesn't matter, unless you're injured.
However if you're a 'competitor' or even keen to perform well and not have a horrid time, I think the time between the Cateran and the WHW is too short. Probably the time from the Fling to the WHW is just about manageable.
Just my view, don't mind being shot down in flames!

I think many would agree with you FR - I've heard that logic a lot. Fling - WHW is ideal, Fling - Cat - WHW is very hard work, Cat - WHW is not enough recovery time for most of us. I'm not sure yet what to do - I need to write a training plan so I have some structure or else I'll just bugger about and do what I feel like, which is often nothing. My priority is to lose some spare weight and gain some strength so that I can start GGW in the best shape possible - I know the running training is in the bag, so it's just fine tuning the body now.

In a similar vein, I was toying with the idea of doing the Ultimate Trails Lakeland 100k next June 21st, then the Lakeland 100 in July, but having only just recovered from the Fling, this looks insane. Please tell me I'm right, because entries open for the 100k soon...

Having done D33 and Fling this year, I was hoping to do G2E 55 and Cat 55 as my pre WHW. If there is less than a month between though, I don't think that would be enough recovery for me. But Cat to WHW this year is 5 weeks, is that right?

I'm a completer, of course, not competing up at the sharp end, as you know FR. But I still wouldn't want to make the WHW any harder for myself than it already will be. If a Cat, 5 weeks before is too much (even if I run it very slowly as I would a training run) then I'm happy to take that advice and the Cateran will still be there for me another year, I hope. G

HappyG, perhaps I'm foolish and stupid 'but' my last long run before L100 (end of July) is middle of June.
I want to get to the start line feeling 'fresh' and really motivated, not knackered and carrying an injury, as I was last year!

So, FR, how long will that give you? 6 weeks? Isn't that about the same as we are talking about for Cateran ->WHW (5 weeks)? Or am I misunderstanding you?

HappyG, the difference is that my long run is ONLY a trial marathon of 26.2 miles variety.
Perhaps the point I'm making really badly is the reduction in volume, a tough 50+ miles six weeks before a BIG one is too much in my view

Thanks for clarifying FR. I'm not disagreeing with you. Like I said to RWR, you guys have more experience than me. And I know I don't recover well. Good advice, as always, ta. G
