Our running clubs is very diverse and inclusive. We have a lot of new runners and members who for various reasons don't want to or can't run very fast. Last night we had Manchester marathon runners doing easy recovery runs, a couple of recent Couch 2 5K graduates and a normally quite quick lady who is just coming back from severe shin splints. On a Map Run night, we always have 3 routes, short medium and long, and various pace groups. We always make sure that someone is assigned to sweep at the back of the slowest group to make sure no-one is left behind or gets lost. As Chair, I often do this job as I find it a great way to find out more about new members and catch up with others (and yes, it I'm honest, it is an excuse to run very slowly sometimes). parkruns have tail runners, and some races have a sweeper bus to pick up runners when they drop out. I have combined these two to form the Tail Bus. And I drive it. |
