Today's session was 6400m alternating 800 @~5000 (16:40) pace, 800 steady with last steady section ending in a 200 sprint. 5000 pace: 2:40.0, 2:39,2, 2:41.2, 2:38.0 Steady section: 3:24.1, 3:21.8, 3:23.3, Then 2:28.0 for 600 and 32.6 for 200 Happy with that, probably had more in me especially given the finish but better this way than overcooking it especially at this point of the season. I wasn't 100% confident till after rep 3 and was feeling a bit lethargic earlier. |

I've also entered the county champs but 1500 for me. We don't have age cats above senior though. Focus has been the Midlands and National road relays over the last few weeks which went pretty well. Going to do my first individual 400 to start track season on Sunday. Yesterday's track session was probably my first session that went better than last year in terms of splits at this point. Broken 1500 session of 2 x (3x500 @15p, 90 secs rec) 4 mins rec. 89.6 89.2 87.3 (4:26.1) 88.3 87.9 87.0 (4:23.2) Shoes probably better this year with Streakfly 2 first set, Victory 2 second set. Last year would have been Reebok Floatride RunFast Pro first set, then Dragonfly second set. V2 felt harsh so will need to get used to them for any MD/ LD racing. I will use them for the 400 on Sunday and tempted to do some sprints in them tomorrow for some more adaptation (just got to make sure I don't overdo it). These are the splits from the same session a year ago. 88.1 87.5 89.2 (4:24.8) 89.3 89.9 87.8 (4:27.0) This year is definitely more like how I'd want to run it even if the pace had ended up exactly the same. Happy with where I'm at and I've made a lot of progress since the metatarsal avulsion fracture in September and the 10:04.01 indoor 3000 at the end of January. I've been trying to get the recovery right recently as had some fatigue over the last month which I thought might be a consequence of fitness coming back so quickly and conditioning needing to catch up. Also possible it's the longer racing on up and down terrain that I've missed by not doing XC this year that I'm feeling. Last week I just did 10 x 400 in-between 1500 and 3000 pace with 1 min recovery as my effort session rather than a full MD or LD session, with the rest of the week easy and two rest days. The week before was a bit lower mileage than recently for national race week. Hopefully I've been getting it right and the conditioning catches up to make further gains as the season progresses. |

Sensible approach. Did 16 x 400's off 70 las week - averaged about 70 secs. Bought the Dragonfly Elite2 (with discount) so used them. Liked them, better than the Oncloud but not the real wow factor I was hoping for as they have a full carbon plate. Dragonfly2's are £95 down from £160, so have some of those too. Typically they felt better just doing some strides after the session! Perhaps I'm wasted on posh spikes ![]() |

@LBAC Si nice session. The Victory 2 might be what you want. Definitely aggressive and the carbon plate is right against the foot (with just the insoles on top) which feels weird/ harsh for me. Still able to run fast in it but definitely not ready for MD/ LD. I think Dragonfly 2 Elite would probably suit me I think, I raced in the Streakfly 2 less than 24 hours after having it as it felt natural for me unlike the V2. Sorry to hear about the ankle issues @Gobi |

Yes @Gobi Hope it clears up! @SPR Tried the Victories already, didn't get on with them - just not 'on my toes' enough for them really. Definitely can't buy any more for a couple of years LOL! |

Victory 1 or 2 @LBAC Si? 2 seem more versatile based on elite runners choosing them. That said, I might end up in a similar position of not getting on with them. The DF2 are just very nice for 1500 up.

I didn't even consider the first ones, heard they were quite unstable. Noticed Hodgkinson and Muir amongst others switched from Dragonfly to Victory in version 2 so thought it was worth a try. They should be good for 400 and 800 at least (so 2-3 races a year) 🤣
