Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Longest run so far of this threshold training block. Tweaked the distance upward, too to accomodate race plans. Three weeks to an unscheduled half marathon and feeling quietly confident. Half way in to the plan and Iʻve seen a significant spike in the VO2 max and Iʻm definitely running my easy pace faster now. Could be the placebo effects but the HR is confirming what Iʻm feeling in each session, so thereʻs a genuine, trackable improvement there. Iʻm just hoping that chucking in the half marathon doesnʻt have too an adverse effect on the over threshold plan and my target 5k at the end of it all. As long as Iʻm honestly listening to my body, Iʻm thinking I should be OK.

I definitely don’t think it’s placebo at all.
And the HM will be fine, just a good hard effort that won’t strain you to much.
Nice to see your progress!

Been a quiet week this one. Lower mileage on the plan and a cold have contributed but that's not always a bad thing. It'll still have been for sessions by the time the week is out, but nothing overly taxing.

Back in to it this week - 10 x 200m Strides

Almost back to normal today with my man cold just about over and done. A pretty good strides session, with the last three stride reps pushing my limit nicely. The weather has cleared too, reaching a respectable 15 degrees, not bad for mid winter. Made for a productive and pleasant session, much needed after last week's bit of a meh! week.

Nice job. I have to keep doing those strides, they clearly work really well in the long run. No pun intended, well maybe a bit :)
My goal this summer, strides and or hill sprints, at least once a week.

Today's Track Threshold Session.

1.6k threshold, recover, 1.2k threshold, recover, 0.8k threshold, recover, 0.4k Anaerobic, recover, 1.6k threshold, recover.

A decent workout session at the track this morning, straight after a good dry needling at the physio. Hit or exceeded all my targets. Feeling stronger today.

Second track session of the week.

10k VO2 Track Session

8 x 400m Threshold

A cold one this morning. A mere 6 degrees at the track. The aim of today's track session was to hit 8 x 400m a smidge above threshold pace. I found it quite hard today, I think its been a fairly big week for HIT training. But I still pretty much got it down and the final 400m rep I tried to break my 400m PB just ton see if I could and I did, just, by 1 second. Not bad for an old man and at the end of a session, too.

Another hard threshold session tonight. 15k Threshold, 10 x 800m. Must be getting to the sharp end of this plan now. Only a couple of weeks to go.

Last hard session before this weekend's Monaco race. That was a toughie and I was certainly feeling it for the last two 800m reps. Both were slightly light on target pace in the end but overall a reasonable session.

Heading in to the last week of the plan and feeling positive about the benifits so far. Very much looking guests to seeing where I end up.

About This Thread

Following some discussion with the Coros coaching team, Iʻve decided to to try and improve my 5k time and general threshold pace. The ultimate target is to improve on my distance running but it starts with being able to hold a solid threshold pace. So, Iʻm going to be starting an 8 week, threshold improvement plan from the 27th of May. I wondered if anyone fancied running along with me, virtually.
