I hate expensive races as there are two of us so it makes everything twice the price. I’m a bit too much of a chicken to risk myself on the fells but yeah super value. @Sorequads I’ve signed up for the September Worcester half. Did you know it’s a qualifier for England Masters half marathon ? I’m sure you will meet the qualification requirement for entry - worth a try ? It’s free to enter. |

@Muddyfunster I hadn't realised the September city centre race was a masters qualifier. I had a quick look at those entered so far and filtered by V40: Some pretty rapid PBs from the only three signed up at this early stage! Have you done it before? It is a good race from a perspective of support and seeing the sights of Worcester. But I found the middle section an absolute pain with so many twists and turns and even a random bit up and around a library, over a little linking bridge and through the bus station 😂. Will consider it though. I did enter the equivalent at the 'short course trail' masters equivalent at the Forest of Dean Half. Think I came 8th in my age category of all entrants, and 5th of those electing to sign up to the masters thing. Have you tried one before? If I lived near the feels, @Curly45, I'd be all over those. Enjoy Sunday. Big weekend incoming, @Foppotee! |

@Sorequads My pb isn't listed there because for me it's not relevant as it comes from more than 5 years ago. Perhaps people are putting ancient pbs in there? The SBs that are there going to be better guidance as to whether you're in with a shout. I qualified when I was a v45 and that put me through to the team event at Maidenhead half, although I was very sick in the run up to it and could only jog round in 1.24-ish. I haven't run the Worcester city course before but the logistics are very convenient as it's a half hour or so drive from home. I know the city pretty well already as I work nearby so I'll be doing it mainly for the vibes and just to see what I've got at the masters level. I haven't raced a half since pre-injury issues around March 2020 (and that was a marathon pace rehearsal) I'm also looking at the Wyre Forest Trail half end of June which I've done several times and is also one of my favourite hikes around here. |

@Foppotee Yep that's exactly - the 3000m is on the same course apparently. it's on 20th June. Should be a right laugh. Love doing these hipster races like the one I did on the go kart track under Canary wharf ![]() @Sorequads Solid half times there from the V40's entrants, but not spectacular tbh for a masters qualifier. Would expect a few sub 70's from that age group. |

Full of cold, but really enjoyed Pommie Panter. It's a fairly new race, been going about 4 years I think. Great little club Youlgrave which started in 2021 as well. Anyway, just under 6 miles, not super super hilly but lots of difficult terrain and stone stiles, some cows 😱 which I am useless around. 3rd lady overall, first old lady and I think a new course record for old ladies. Like I said a newish race. Wasn't too far behind my club mate who came second woman, but I didn't have anything left for the last uphill as my cold was impeding my breathing a bit. Pleased to beat a former clubmate although she has been ill as well and ran London so still recovering a bit. Thats my last race before we go off for a walking holiday on 27th May. No running at all for two weeks then but over 200km in mountains so should keep fairly fit nonetheless if not sharp. Legs seem fine post race but again the cold hampered the effort levels so that's not unexpected. |

Another pot for the recent haul there @Curly45 , good work. Friday night track was decent volume, 4 sets of 3mins, 2mins, 1mins at 5k, 3k, quicker. Off decent recoveries though, 2mins, 80secs then nominally "40secs" but had a 2min pot set bolt-on, so 2min 40 essentially! Ran the first 3 sets solo, with two others working together a bit behind, but one of them dropped after set 3 to go and pace the back marker, so the other fella joined me. Probably incentivised me to slightly move on a little, although that can often happen when the end is in sight anyway! 13 today. Took until quite late on to feel the hip a little. Stomach a bit looser as in tightness, not unleashing ![]() Few little other tightnesses at the start faded as warmed up. 7.40 pace, with a 250 feet hill reducer 3/4 in. A hill I very rarely run up but thought I'd throw it in. Essentially the height must be the same as what I often do on my 8mile midweeker, with the now much mentioned "grassy bank", but that's in instalments. Much more brutal climb over 0.2m, then must have a couple of slighter longer inclines after. |

Nice training @stevieg love a good hill to work through. Two pots actually as I won both "prizes" - basically some fancy bits of wood work. For £6 though one can't complain |

Even better! Always nice to get something a bit more unusual isn't it, like those.

Sounds like fun SC, I have never done a crit race but in power terms I expect I would be cat 2 and I have ridden with cat 2 guys and haven't had a problem keeping up. You have to earn points though and work your way through the ranks so your current category isn't necessarily a reflection of you ability. Nice woodels Curly. I'd probably find a spot in the garden if I had those :-). Saturday was 2:45 on the bike around IM power and then a 32 minute run off the bike with 3 x 5 minutes. First interval was high 5:5x pace if I ignore the bit where I doubled back briefly to make sure the garage door had closed properly. Then once I got moving 5:41 pace for the second 5 minutes and 5:39 for the final one. I was pretty happy with that immediately after nearly 3 hours on the bike. Sunday was a long run scheduled as 45 minutes easy then 6 x 1km (Target 4:00 per km) with 3 minute recoveries at 4:30 per km pace and a 20 minute cool down. KMs came out as as 3:48, 41,41,45,42,42. Faster than planned but the effort felt right. |
